Hey everyone, I’m coming to you midweek with a couple resource recommendations.
In the last several years there have been so many new resources on homelessness, from books to articles to podcasts and so much more. Many of you ask my thoughts on them, and very often I respond with “I don’t know.” Despite my closeness to the issue, or maybe because of it, I don’t always immediately seek these things out in my down time.
But two new projects caught my attention recently because they were made by people I know and love. They are both podcasts, they’re both terrific, and they’re both extremely different.
The first is Homeland. It’s produced and narrated by my friend Ben Kay who I know from my time in LA. He’s incredibly knowledgable, insightful, and connected. He also happens to be a person of faith, which emerges at times in the series. Ben’s been working on this project for years, and it comes across both in his access to highly influential people in the field, and in the production value. This is an incredibly professional podcast, and the content is top notch. I immediately stole and used content from it in my presentations from just the first two episodes.

Second, on the opposite end of the “production” spectrum is the Imagine Dignity Podcast with Dr. Terence Laster. Terence is the author of several wonderful books on homelessness, race, faith, and so much more. He also graciously wrote the foreword for my book. This podcast is an intentionally stripped-down, frills-free project where you get to hear directly from people experiencing homelessness interviewed by Terence—in the park, in the car on the way to the Social Security office… in the real world. It’s a light but deep touch, and it’s everything we need right now.

Thanks for the podcast recs. Both are excellent!
