Nice article. The points in your article take me to Dorothy Day's writing and experiences. I hope that is a huge complement for you! There is dignity in ALL life. And it's not up to us to decide who is worthy of charity. Enjoyed reading it. Keep up the good work.
The highest compliment! My favorite quote attributed to her is poignant to this article: “The Gospel takes away our right forever to discriminate between the deserving and undeserving poor.”
Another good one. You're probably familiar with the work of Fr. Greg Boyle, SJ. Some of your other writing relating to "Radical Love" reminds me of his work.
Definitely. When I was pitching my first book, I named “Tattoos on the Heart” and “Just Mercy” as my inspirations. “Tattoos” because it tells stories that connect to spirituality, but you don’t finish that book deeply understanding gang violence. “Just Mercy” has the combo of storytelling and education but not the spirituality piece (explicitly).
Just finished the book. Excellent! I certainly see parallels from Fr. Greg Boyle and Dorothy Day. 1. Dignity of all life 2. Compassion/Mercy/Forgiveness 3. Even poor people deserve nice things 4. The importance of coffee!
This is such a powerful series, thank you
