With the Supreme Court decision on June 28 in the case of Grants Pass v Johnson, journalists and publications of many shapes and sizes have weighed in with their lens on this landmark case.
Thanks for sharing this with us, Kevin. I don't think you and I are always on the same page about all the things, either, but I value your voice and I think it would have been good for CT to publish something on the edge of where they sit. I hate that this happened.
Unfortunately, I am not surprised. But I am very sorry for you, but not for those who won’t get to read your words about this topic.
I was so pleased to have my own op-ed about this topic published in my local newspaper. My PA county is complex in its demographic and religious makeup. We are a split of conservative and democrat/progressive, and we have very deep roots in the Anabaptist faith, which historically has been welcoming and hospitable. I hope that my piece (which I posted to my own Substack page on Monday) will resonate with my local community. Tackling an audience bigger than that is too much for me at this juncture in our political landscape.
Excellent and well-purposed piece. I’m sure you are aware of Jim Wallis of Georgetown (“The False White Gospel”). I really think he’d be interested in much of your work for the Peace & Justice Center there. Reach out to him. You have a profound voice.
The part where you used their money to pass out freeze pops to unhoused neighbors was my favorite. Thank you for your advocacy work to get this message to out to a larger audience. Even when you have to deal with these kinds of frustrating and disappointing situations. I am angry that they handled things the way that they did. I certainly won’t be subscribing to CT.
I mean if it makes you feel any better, CT just wrote an article which promoted "embodied eyes" which contradicts Hebrews 11:1, 2 cor 4:18, romans 1:18-20, John 20:29 and ignored the part of sanctification specifically for salvation alone. I'm not sure what their interests are but they're dead in faith if they sincerely push that position. There's a ton to criticize about them but they're taking themselves out of the equation. Until they write about repentance and the great commission and romans 6:22 I'm not sure we should really expect much from them. They're not leading towards what Christ fully taught. They're not preaching sanctification. https://archive.is/U3SRj
Every Christian has their own idols. It's hard to see when we worship lust, money, the ego or any created thing where these converge but we should accept correction when it's in the plain scripture. If you're speaking against scripture with dug quotes in the ot (for a counter: proverbs 27:19) then you have a perfect opportunity to find your idol there. Our faith is not in embodied eyes. Our eyes aren't sinful - we aren't gnostic - but our faith is very much not in embodied eyes and Christ very explicitly said so and we shouldn't be promoting embodied eyes as a means to salvation. That is beyond pagan and hardly enchanting at that but God Bless. I honestly pray they give their, what are apparent to me, idols to the Lord and become holy because it's really great having a major Christian magazine as a force for holiness that is Our God's through Jesus, Our Lord and Savior.

Kevin, thank you so much for your voice and your commitment to housing first and centering housing as the solution to homelessness.
How incredibly disappointing. Thank you for sharing this experience, and I hope we get to read the piece elsewhere at some point!

Thank you!
I appreciate you sharing this with readers and the respectful way you went about doing so. As a CT reader, I feel really disappointed.
So glad you told this story—CT is definitely on the left side of Jesus in its its indifference to the homeless

So sorry to hear of your experience.
