This is a way of thinking about these types of issues that I’d not really considered before. This is such a beautiful and helpful mindset to approach them from. Thank you so much for sharing.
I love all of this and now I want you to write about being a professional in this field and learning to navigate work-related situations that come up in your personal life. Because when it happens it is HARD. And it always seems to happen.
This is fantastic. Having been the mentally ill and homeless loved one, I can say that the level of influence that my family and close friends have on me have terrified me into fighting or running away from that power dynamic. When I feel so powerless in my own stuff as it is, the most effective helpers have always been those who let me have the upper hand and whom I can walk away from at any moment with impunity. But it’s hard for others to understand that. I think you captured it perfectly with this metaphor -- thank you.
Thank you for this Kevin. The deeper I’ve gone with people broken apart by this world, the more I’ve often felt the structural is more straightforwardly solvable than the personal. Our complexities are so vast. Grateful for all the ways you make grace available.

This resonates so much. I even struggle to accept help from those closest to me, and I'm not struggling with addiction or homelessness.
