I totally agree with you about evangelism to the unhoused. The Bible doesn’t say “Feed the poor but only if they listen to a sermon first.” The Bible says “Feed the poor.” Period. The rest will come as the Holy Spirit does its work.

No one should have a second, third, gazillionyth home until everyone has A HOME. Whatever that looks like. I know that some will say agh, that’s communism! No, it’s egalitarian, compassionate? Even super wealthy people say how much money is enough? They can’t possibly spend it in their lifetime. It’s the definition of insanity-they sock it away in real estate or geegaws. We need a new paradigm that hasn’t done before!

I honestly don’t remember there being homelessness when I was a teenager. There were plenty of not great living situations but they were affordable. Even to a teenager. I became homeless off and on during the 2008 housing bubble. The bank wouldn’t work with me and bought it for a song and sold it for a lot more. I went through early menopause and had an empty nest. Sometimes it’s just a perfect storm and then I lost my mind, relapsed. It’s a very complicated issue without any real, dedicated safety net. It can go south really fast. Climbing out becomes harder and harder the obstacles pile up. Family is unaware of how to cope and withdraw. I’m sure this is not what Jesus was trying to get across. Stop the madness!!!!!!!

homelessness as we know it today is a result of the dismantling of social welfare programs in the 80's, then further compounded by the crisis in 2008.

Thank you! Now could you please tell my family? They believe in the oft repeated belief, lie that ultimately it is the individual , not the corporations. Surely the corporations know that was if not illegal, immoral? The message we are fed by the government, corporations and the media is that they have our best interests in mind. NO! They don’t.

I grew up in a small town and there were always little cabins, houses, apartments that were reasonable prices. Now the elite have moved in, often second homers, lots of gated homes etc. they have effectively made it too expensive for the locals and sadly even the original pioneer families that built the town. Gone are the horses, livestock and ranches. God forbid they smell manure! I have a hard time being Christian because I hate them. I do, it’s awful but what they are doing is criminal. Much much much worse than the “crime” of being homeless.
